Dare-devil pensioner does it again
Thursday, 9 October 2008
A SEVENTY-one-year-old Magherafelt man is putting his life on the line again to raise funds for the Northern Ireland Hospice charity (NIHC).
Malcolm Wilson from Brennan Court intends to abseil down a 600ft cliff face on the North Antrim coast near Ballycastle called Fairhead.
This 'EXTREME ADRENALINE ABSEIL' will take place On Saturday, October 18. Any interested thrill seekers were required to raise a minimum of £200 for the Northern Ireland Hospice Charity in order to enter. Money raised will help to provide care for adults and children with non-malignant diseases such as Parkinson's Disease, Dementia and Motor Neurone Disease.
This won't be the first time Malcolm has taken on a challenge like this. In July, 2007, he abseiled down the Europa Hotel, Belfast, to raise money for another local charity.
Angela Davison, Regional Fundraiser for the Hospice, commented "This is the second year we have organised an abseil in the North Coast area and we are excited about this year's Extreme Adrenalin Abseil which is not for the fainthearted! Fair Head is a beautiful setting with spectacular headland rising 600 feet above sea level with fantastic views of Rathlin, Scotland and Murlough Bay. The money raised on the day will make a real difference to our work providing specialist respite and end of life care to patients in the local area and across Northern Ireland and we are hoping for a good response."
To sponsor Malcolm people are urged to contact him on his home number: 02879301413, or on his mobile: 07803 716739.
Money donated will go toward funding that includes the adult hospice at Somerton Road in Belfast, the Children's Hospice in Newtownabbey and the community nursing teams, caring for families affected by life threatening illnesses all over Northern Ireland. The hospice offers respite and end of life care and provide not just medical care, but also emotional and spiritual support to the whole family circle.
