‘Dogging’ discovered in South Derry thumbnailThe Curran Picnic Area on the Glenshane Road which is highlighted on-line as a popular ‘meeting place.’

THE Northern Constitution can exclusively reveal that the Curran Picnic Area on the Glenshane Road is an alleged hot-spot for explicit sexual activities known as 'dogging'.
‘Dogging' is a British euphemism for engaging in sexual acts in a semi-public place (typically a secluded car park or a cinema) or watching others doing so. In September 2003, the BBC reported on the 'new' dogging craze.
They cited the Internet and text messaging as very common ways of organising meetings. The original definition of dogging (and which is still a closely-related activity) is spying on couples having sex in a car or other public place.
The location of 'dogging events' is now frequently advertised on websites or communicated via mobile phone text message.
On one such website, which the Northern Constitution has decided not to name, the Curran Picnic Area is listed as one of the most popular locations for 'dogging' in the whole of the county.
The website was also used by members, who all operate under aliases, to arrange a time and a place to conduct such liaisons, many even shamelessly post photos of themselves.
One message posted by a user read: "Ladies I am coming to antrim on wednesday 25th of June and I am staying in a hotel and would love some company I am very genuine and attractive so if u want to get back to me please do."
