Olympic Silver medalist, Wendy Houveneghal, will be thrown a special celebration in Upperlands thumbnail

OLYMPIC Silver Medalist Wendy Houveneghal, will experience a heroes welcome when she returns to her home town of Upperlands next week.
A victory celebration has been planned for Wednesday September 3, in honour of Wendy's accomplishment of being the first person from Northern Ireland to win an individual Olympic medal in 16 years, the last being Wayne McCollugh at the Barcelona games.
Finishing runner up to Rebecca Romero in the Individual cycling pursuit, Wendy well and truly put the small village of Upperlands on the map over the past two weeks, and everyone there is waiting with baited breath for her return, especially her Mother, May McClean.
“ It's certainly been a hectic few weeks", May told the Northern Constitution, " Wendy got back to Cornwall last week and is very excited about coming back home, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing her and congratulating her in person."
She added: "All the family are very proud of her, as are the people of Upperlands."
